Have you heard of ‘Circles of Concern’, ‘Concern and Influence’, ‘Zoro’s Circle’
These names represent the same concept which we can all use to benefit our sense of control and influence in any given situation but most importantly when an individual or group feels that they do not have control.
The image below is an example of what the concept represents.

As you can see there are two circles one that shows concern, and one that shows influence. The circles can be changed in size to demonstrate how one is feeling about either concern or influence. In many circumstances, an individual or group will feel that they do not have any control, so they feel helpless, hopeless, and worthless. Recognising these feelings and working on what the individual or the group does have influence over such as personal choices, boundaries, relationships, creative thinking, intelligence, work ethic, humility, consistency, the list is endless…… can change the size and therefore the feeling of influence in a situation. With this increased sense of influence will come increased motivation to grow and do what is right for the individual and/or group in regards to the circumstances or situation at hand and usually in-turn will change the size of the circles, with an increase in the size of the circle representing ‘Influence’.
Try using this technique, on yourself, on your colleagues, friends, employees or clients and watch them move from a place of perceived helplessness, hopelessness, decreased motivation and confidence to an increase in all mentioned.
